Language classes

Our Italian courses cater for a wide range of needs.  Whether you are interested in travelling, studying, improving your language skills, or you just want to have a taste of Italian culture, the Dante Alighieri Society of Canberra is the place to go.

Enrolment in one of classes ensures you get the most valuable course available in Canberra. Besides, you are taught by native Italian teachers in the authentic and friendly environment of a non-profit, community organisation that has been promoting the Italian language and culture in Canberra for more than 60 years.

Available courses

We offer members* of the Society classes for beginners with little if any knowledge of Italian and for those seeking to improve their proficiency in the language.  All the courses are designed to develop and promote communication skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing.  And we are the only Italian language provider in Canberra that provides its students the opportunity to practice what they learn in optional conversation groups.

We currently offer courses catering for five different levels of proficiency: BeginnerContinuing BeginnerIntermediate, Continuing Intermediate and Advanced. Beginner to Continuing Intermediate courses are based on the Textbook  Italian Espresso 1. Advanced classes use Italian Espresso 2. These textbooks are available to our students from the Dante Canberra office at discounted prices.

Depending on demand, we may also run special Italian course for Travellers  and courses on Italian Art and Cinema.

Time & Location

Language Classes are held on Tuesday (Beginner and Continuing Beginner) and Wednesday (Beginner 1, Continuing Intermediate and Advanced) evenings from 6-8pm at the Yarralumla Primary School (Loftus Street, Yarralumla) or at the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre (180 London Circuit, City – only for classes with less than 8 students).
