Italian Language Classes
Terms and Conditions of Enrolment – 2026

These Terms and Conditions apply to all enrolments with Dante Alighieri Society Canberra (DASC). We are a small, volunteer‑run community organisation and aim to apply these terms fairly and consistently.

1. Enrolment and Fees

Enrolment is for the full term. Fees are charged on a term basis, not per individual class.

2. Refunds and Credit Notes

Before the Term Starts

If a student withdraws before the first day of term, a refund is available minus a 20% administration fee.

Alternatively, a Credit Note for the full amount may be issued for use in the next term only.

After the Term Has Started

  • No refunds are issued for missed classes or public holidays.
  • Refunds are not normally issued after the term commences except in special circumstances, subject to Australian Consumer Law.

Where special circumstances apply and withdrawal occurs within the first three weeks of term, DASC may offer:

  • a refund minus a 20% administration fee, or
  • a Credit Note minus a 20% administration fee for use in the next term.

Students who have attended three or more classes and are unable to complete the course due to special circumstances may, at DASC’s discretion, be offered a 50% refund or a Credit Note for 50% of fees paid.

Evidence may be requested where appropriate.

Special Circumstances May Include:

  • Sudden illness preventing attendance where deferment is not possible
  • Significant family circumstances (e.g. serious illness of a close family member)
  • Unexpected relocation or work/study commitments preventing attendance

3. Credit Notes (Deferment)

A Credit Note is considered a deferment of enrolment and:

  • Is normally offered only within the first three weeks of term
  • Must be used in the next term only
  • Cannot be exchanged for a refund once issued
  • Expires if not used in the next term. The expiry date will be clearly stated at the time the Credit Note is issued.

In exceptional circumstances, DASC may consider deferment later within the same school year. This is assessed case by case and, if offered, will be the only option available. A second deferment is not available.

4. Change of Class

If a student has concerns about class level, they should contact the DASC office before the end of the third week of term.

DASC will try to accommodate one class change per term (day, time, or level), subject to availability.

5. Missed Classes

DASC does not offer guaranteed make‑up classes.

If a student cannot attend a class, they should notify the DASC office in advance where possible. The office may try to arrange attendance at another class of the same level during that week, subject to class size and availability.

6. Cancelled Classes

Before the Term Starts

If a class does not reach minimum enrolments, DASC may cancel the class before term begins. Students will be offered:

  • transfer to a similar class, or
  • a full refund, or
  • a Credit Note.

During the Term

Classes may be cancelled due to emergencies or unexpected events (e.g. teacher illness).

Where possible, cancelled classes will be rescheduled. If rescheduling is not possible, a Credit Note will normally be offered. Refunds will be considered where required under Australian Consumer Law.

7. Public Holidays

DASC is closed on ACT public holidays and no classes are held on those days.

Where possible, a make‑up class may be organised, subject to teacher availability.

8. Privacy and Communications

Personal information collected during enrolment is handled in accordance with DASC’s Privacy Policy. We collect only what is needed to manage enrolments, classes, and communications.

We may use tools such as Mailchimp and Google Drive and may share limited details (such as name and email address) with the Dante Alighieri Society internationally where relevant. Further details are set out in our Privacy Policy.

9. General

All decisions regarding refunds, deferments, and class changes are made in good faith, reasonably, and consistently with this policy, at the discretion of the DASC committee.

DASC reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions. The version in force at the time of enrolment will apply.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes a student’s rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
